Trying to decide what drink to bring to the beach is like having five best friends and only one open seat. Sure, you can bring several drinks and you could even bring one of everything, but at some point you realize that you still have to choose and FOMO is real.
If you go with Corona are you going to wish you had brought 805?
Is making a cocktail at the beach the best idea with melting ice and blowing sand?
But the real question is, “If I bring this bottle of wine, is anyone else going to help me drink it before it gets hot and starts to suck?”
ENTER: Rosé in a can.
If you’re a “beer only - wine never” or “Rosé is for girls” kind of guy, stick around for a second and you might feel like giving this one a try.
First of all, it’s in a can, which is basically the happy medium between a box and a bottle. You won’t look like a raging alcoholic bringing a box to the beach by yourself and you won’t look like you’re taking the beach picnic too seriously by bringing a fancy bottle of bubbly. (If your beach picnic is for a proposal though, bring a bottle - and make it a good one)
Also, it’s a single-serving, which solves the whole problem of, “Does anyone else like Rosé?” And if you value the alcohol-to-volume ratio at all, you’re also going to appreciate the buzz from this little Red Bull-sized can.
Finally, it actually tastes good. I’m not a super-fan of Rosé normally, but this one was a great match for the afternoon beach vibe. It wasn’t all dry and unapproachable and the bubbles brought it into that no-man’s land between wine and beer.
If you’re still feeling self conscious about drinking Rosé in public, here are your training wheels:
Throw it in a koozie - no one has to know.
Say that your girlfriend bought them, didn’t like it and was going to throw the rest away, and you couldn’t stand by and let alcohol go to waste.
Just never say the word, “Rosé.” “Wine” sounds less pretentious.
This canned Rosé from West Shore was my introduction to the world of wine in a can and it definitely hit the spot. Give something in a can a try and see if it hits the spot for you next time you take a trip to the water.
Just be sure to keep it on ice and bring enough to share.
